VS08

Over the next few weeks I’ll be heads down recording How-Do-I Videos to be released for the “ORCAS” Launch.

I’ll be primarly focusing on what’s new for Web Developers.

By now you’ve had a peek or seen some previews, maybe even installed it and gotten started yourself.

Since I mostly work for you folks – please tell me what VS2008 NEW features your interested in having me do videos on.

Fill in the blank……

How-Do-I [xxxxxxxxxxx] in Visual Studio 2008 ?

More specific: An example where you use the new System.AddIn namespace to allow developers to extend your ASP.NET app.

Or is System.AddIn not suited for ASP.NET?

Would like to see a class with methods ( not a code behind ) creating and using linq objects. The linq objects would not be passed in. The connection would not be passed in. There would be methods in the class for each crud command. In additon it would show linq calling a procedure.

(1)

How I can replace my middle data tier (ADO.NET classes) by using LINQ-2-SQL, mainly for Storage Procedure

I am using mostly Storage Procedure in my development and I like to use LINQ-2-SQL to access storage procedure for Select, Update, Insert and Delete

My purpose is to remove middle data tier (ADO.NET classes) and true type objects (Schema Classes)

Is it LINQ-2-SQL effect performance, with compare to ADO.NET code?

Like Storage Procedure if faster than do use of SQL String to access database though ADO.NET

(2)

How I can implement, create or to add (in the theme folder) with a new CSS, during design view of page/UC. Like I want to change CSS Class of any element from one CSS to other CSS, or may be I can create new class and new CSS.

How-Do-I Create and Manage ASP.NET Unit Tests in Visual Studio 2008?

Now that it's built in to the IDE, it might be worth going over using it with ASP.NET a bit. Especially for website projects, where it can be a little bit confusing to get started.

As a developer who's role is loosely defined as something between a Designer and a Programmer. I would love to see more demos that show the benefits of using expressions/orcas over traditional web design software such as dream weaver.

One thing that would be really helpful is a tutorial that shows how to use Custom User/3rd Party controls with in Expression web. I know you have to register these controls into the GAC and yada yada yada... but getting designers to do this is a nightmare. Please Help!

I'm finding it increasingly difficult as a developer/programmer to get designers excited about Expression Web, Orcas and especially Silverlight.

Although it makes me look like a dinosaur ...
I am interested in how VS 2008 supports development of ASP 3.0 and WSC, particularly with regard to IntelliSense (ASP, JScript, VBScript, COM-Objects).
As a freelance developer I am confronted with ASP to ASP.NET migration as well as ASP support every once a while.

Hey Now Joe,
I love training flix, & really looking forward to these. Will they be available on www.asp.net? Maybe How Do I effectively use the JavaScript intellisence in VS08 or How do I use LINQ to SQL in VS08? If any new Shortcut keys that would be a useful one I think too.
Thanks,

There seems to be very little Wecasts & videos avalable on VS2008...
So I'm really glad to hear that you are putting some together.

The ones that Microsoft currently provide do not allow me to download them for viewing later.
Due to lack of bandwith in the location I am at, viewing them online is impossible.
What is Microsoft thinking?

I mean, create all this hype about VS2008 & then no Webcasts/Videos available for download...

If someone can point out some links where I can actually download the stuff I would appreciate it.

Do you ever get the feeling Microsoft a always just one step a way from their promises...with each release, we are led to believe that the next version has all the fixes and solutions - only for us to find that as per usual, there are huge problems and are forced to wait for yet another release. In this time between releases - so much changes, it makes it impossible to fathom any real understanding or gain assurance. I have had enough of working on the Microsoft platforms - I am moving away from this bullshit - just how gullable are we?

Stop releasing new frameworks and finsh those you start Microsoft. The observed personality displayed by your developers and lead architects is one that is impulsive, like a child - eager to jump on the backs of the real creators out there, by this I refer to all those that engineer the hardware you fools play with. The WPF and alike are great concepts, but again if you look carefully - there are many classic symptoms of oversight, reinvention and over development. Why did you not just improve the existing frameworks? The reason? because there are so many flaws in the foundations of the design, they can not cope with it.

11/20/2007 1:23:15 PM

All this begs the question, can you really trust Micrsoft with the 3.5 and 2008 frameworks? devoting your time and energy, sacrificing all that is important to make a living, knowing too well that in the blink of an eye the majority of the time you spend developing is wasted and stands for little. Think about it, how many of you developers out there use Win32 API's to actually get the job done? what in the frameworks actually proves valid when delivering a real world solution?

Look at the bigger picture. The companies out there that really make this world what it is - what part of that is Microsoft? and just how much of it is .Net relative? Vista? lol...Microsoft - please, please, please go back to your drawing boards. Fix and finish what you start before the entire world realises your feeble grip holds very little and that your game is actually worn thin despite the hype you successfully create to steer your sheep. Smoke and Mirrors.
